What ShareDrop.org gives you

End-to-end encrypted DTLS

A WebRTC/DTLS tunnel runs straight between your two devices. The keys never leave them, even a fallback relay only forwards ciphertext it cannot read.

keys stay on-device · relay is zero-knowledge

No account, no storage 0 BYTES

No sign-up, no upload. Your file never lands on our servers; the one-time room self-destructs in ten minutes whether or not anyone joins.

nothing stored · no copy left behind

SHA-256 verified BOTH ENDS

Every file is hashed as it streams, on both ends. A transfer only counts as done when the two checksums match — corruption or tampering cannot slip through.

SHA-256 both ends · match = done

200+ Mbps measured 25 MB/s

No artificial speed caps. Our engine sustains 200+ Mbps with live verification running; in practice your own network sets the ceiling, not us.

benchmarked with hashing on · your network is the limit

Works everywhere WEB + APPS

Any browser on PC, Mac or phone works with zero install, plus native iPhone and Android apps when you want them. One encrypted protocol connects any mix.

web · iPhone · Android · PC

Folders & auto-resume RESUMES

Drop a whole folder and it arrives with its structure intact. If the connection blips, the transfer picks up from the last verified chunk — no starting over.

folder tree kept · resumes mid-transfer

How to use ShareDrop.org

STOP 1

Create a transfer

A one-time room that self-destructs after ten minutes if nobody joins.

STOP 2

Scan to join

QR code, link or an 8-character code — nothing connects until you approve it.

STOP 3

Verified delivery

Files stream in chunks; only matching SHA-256 checksums count as done.

Three paths. You always see which one you got.

LAN direct FASTEST

Same Wi-Fi: peer to peer, never leaves your network.

Internet direct DIRECT

Across networks, peer to peer via STUN hole punching.

Encrypted relay FALLBACK

Firewalled networks: the relay forwards ciphertext it cannot read.

The badge is read from the live connection statistics, never guessed — what each mode really means.

Frequently asked questions

What is ShareDrop.org?

ShareDrop.org sends files from one device to another using nothing but the browsers they already have. No app to install, no account to create: open the page, share a QR code or short code, and the file travels over an encrypted connection between your two devices — not through anyone's cloud storage. How it works →

What does peer-to-peer transfer mean?

With a cloud service, your file is first uploaded to a company's server, then downloaded by the other person. Peer-to-peer skips the middle stop: the two devices connect to each other and the file flows directly between them. That usually means faster transfers — and no copy of your file sitting on a server afterwards. The technology behind it →

What makes ShareDrop.org different?

Honesty and verification. The app always shows which path your data actually takes (LAN direct, internet direct, or encrypted relay); both devices display a safety code so you can confirm nobody sits in the middle; and every file is checked with SHA-256 on both ends — a transfer only counts as done when the checksums match. Folder transfers and automatic resume after a dropped connection are built in.

How fast are transfers?

We add no artificial speed limits. In our own benchmark the engine sustains 200+ Mbps (25 MB/s) with real-time SHA-256 verification running on both ends — measured between two browsers over an encrypted channel on one machine. In practice your network sets the ceiling: on the same Wi-Fi transfers run at whatever your router can do, and across the internet the slower side's connection is the limit.

Is there a file size limit?

The transfer protocol has none. What matters is how the receiving browser saves files: desktop Chrome and Edge stream straight to disk, so multi-gigabyte files are fine; Firefox and Safari assemble files in memory, so we cap those at 512 MB per file and tell you before the transfer starts. Size limits by platform →

Is ShareDrop.org free?

Yes. Free to use, with no account, no premium tiers, and no paying to unlock bigger files.

Is ShareDrop.org related to sharedrop.io?

No. ShareDrop.org is an independent project with no shared code, infrastructure or operators — the similar name is exactly why we always spell ours out as ShareDrop.org. Our full independence statement is on the About page. About ShareDrop.org →
